Least Shocking Headline Ever

New York Times:

"Gay Couples Find Marriage Is a Mixed Bag"

What, did you gals and guys think you were going to find a rose garden?

UPDATE: Bad metaphor. Rose gardens have lots of thorns. Or maybe a good metaphor.

Are you under the impression that a gay person wrote that headline?! That headline is for the contingent of straights that think we want to "change" marriage and for lovestruck 18 years olds who think it is a bed of nicely pruned and de-thorned roses.

I am not under the impression that a gay person wrote the headline, but I'm glad you asked because I didn't think of that angle to it.

I asked the "What, did you . . ." question in the same way I would ask it to anyone considering marriage.

So I think I've stumbled into a promising basis for a certain speech I'm supposed to give in December . . .

Reminds me of the song:

"I beg your pardon, I never promised you a rose garden. Along with the sunshine. There's got to be a little rain sometime."

Marriage is really, really, really hard. I lasted for 10 years. It was the "for better or for worse" that got me. Couldn't handle the "worse" and the "better" wasn't that much better.
